It has been a couple of days since we posted. Sorry about that. Well, we have finally finished everything! Today, we visited the US Consulate Office and took an oath. Mr. Li (our guide/representative/attorney) spent the better part of a day there yesterday while we finished up with the medical exams and a few other items. Mr. Li finished all the paperwork for us, so basically all we had to do was show up and swear that everything we had written down in the forms was true. That was easy enough. After it was over they explained to us that the Chinese government has issued Grant a passport. Part of what happened today was that the US government will now issue a visa for him to get into the US. But, the minute he lands on US soil, he legally becomes a US citizen. That was pretty neat to learn. Because that was all that was on our agenda today, our representative Mr. Li took us around Guangzhou to show us some sites. It was a really fun day. He took us to the Guangdong Folk Art Museum, which was formerly the Chen Family's Ancestral Hall during the Qing Dynasty (1888-1894). We have included some very nice photos from the Museum. After the Museum, Mr. Li took us to a local Cantonese restaurant. He ordered for us and it was a magnificent meal. In Guangdong, people like to order many different dishes that come in smaller portions. We had about four different types of dumplings, four different types of vegetables, a couple different meats, and a large bowl of noodles. Everything was really good. And, we are both finally getting the hang of chopsticks so we aren't quite as funny to watch when we eat! After lunch, Mr. Li took us to a park in town and we took a long stroll. It was a beautiful, peaceful setting and it was a nice way to spend an hour or so. We have really had an opportunity to see China during this trip (at least Chengdu and Guangzhou). It has been hard to be here this long (missing everyone sooooooo much). But it is good that we have experienced this and can share it with Grant when he gets older. We fully intend to return one day to show Grant and the rest of the kids where he comes from), but that will be years down the road and in the meantime we have been able to gain a much greater appreciation by being here and having the chance to experience it ourselves.
